I’m lying in bed, listening to the rain pour down in Malibu, taking a moment to slow down and put these past weeks into perspective. My family and I are staying in this weekend, having cancelled our Mexican getaway, and we are gearing up for homeschool over the next few weeks. With everything that is going on, staying in seems like the most responsible choice to protect ourselves, and more importantly, to protect others. The top question I have been seeing is, “how can I stay healthy?”
More than ever, this is a time to find our confidence and our ability to remain calm. The fear and panic that has taken hold of our country presents an entirely new danger in addition to the virus itself. Of course, we all have our own unique worries to tend to, but I wanted to share what I am doing at home to stay healthy and happy during this time. I hope this will be helpful to some of you!
In my home, we are focusing on reconnecting as a family. We’re preparing family dinners together, enjoying popcorn movie nights, laughing and playing backgammon. We are limiting physical visits, but making an effort to stay connected with friends digitally and by phone.
We are also focusing on our mental and physical health. Our mental well-being is so important during this stressful time. We are dedicating time to do breathing exercises, which can be a great way to clear your mind and reduce stress. Download our Fitness Guide for steps to completing your own breathwork at home (you will find our breathwork exercises on page 20 of the PDF).
As always, physical exercise is a priority in our home. Exercise is a proven way to stay healthy and reduce stress. There are a multitude of studies that show that 30 minutes of exercise can significantly reduce cortisol (the hormone responsible for stress response) in our bodies. Staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t get in a great workout. We have hundreds of home workout videos on the Brooke Burke Body app that you can do right from your own living room. No gym equipment required. All you need is some water and yourself! A yoga mat and light weights are totally optional.
All of us at Brooke Burke Body want to support your general well being and help you create a healthy, happy home. So we’re offering 75% off for all new members this month to help bring fitness to you. Just use the promo code HOMEBODY to start getting fit, right at home.
