It’s 8:30am on a holiday weekend in Santa Monica, I’m sweaty, I’m fatigued & I feel FANTASTIC! I just walked out of a hot yoga class that was so much more than a body-chisel experience. It was my me-time, my personal time to re-connect with myself, my happy space to raise my energies and simply b-r-e-a-t-h-e. I escaped from my family for a quick hour of soaking up the sweet nectar of intentional self-care with some serious downward dogs and relaxing child poses. In my past there was some guilt associated with this, but now it’s about being the captain of my body and the master of my time.
I see physical activity as an expression of love, not only to my physical being, but also to my soul, my friends & especially my family. I’m a way better wife, patient mother and productive business woman after a invigorating sweat! It’s a vow as well as a commitment to myself- knowing that by doing so I am able to meet everything else I aspire to accomplish with more grace and energy
As women it is in our nature to give, to accommodate, so often we put our own desires aside for the sake of someone else’s happiness. This often leaves us at the very bottom of the totem pole, and last on the list of priorities. Today I am in my mid-40’s and I made a promise to give my body and spirit the attention it deserves, even if it is a simple 30 min walk. I want this for you as well!
Here are 5 Reasons why you should join me in what I know to be true: Working Out makes a better YOU!
Working out makes us happier!! Who needs mood enhancing drugs when studies show exercising can be just as good as popping a Prozac! When we start exercising our body releases a protein called BDNF and chemicals called endorphins. Together these trigger an addictive feeling of happiness! FACT! So why not get addicted to fitness with a huge smile on your face?? And it feels Oh-So-Good.
Working out has a proven link to greater sexual desire and more satisfaction. Moving our bodies actually increases our hormone testosterone and prepares our bodies for sexy time by making us more sensitive to touch. Exercise releases endorphins which reduces stress which = a better mood which translates to being IN THE MOOD. We feel more energy when we work out because of the adrenaline release. The Combo of Adrenaline + Testosterone + Endorphins is quite the sexy cocktail. Exercise also increases stamina and makes us feel more desirable and confident, which also leads to more fun in bed. P.S. they had me at mood enhancer 🙂
Working out is Mandatory because we DON’T HAVE TIME NOT TO!!! The older we get the more important it is to stay in tune with our bodies and take better care of ourselves. Feeling more tired? It’s a fact that exercise will give you more energy. Even when I don’t walk into my class full of pep in my step and my inner dialogue says “Who the hell do you think you are?”, I power through it, mind over matter and I walk out with more energy than I brought in. The more you work out, the better you feel all the way around. And, the better you feel the more you work out! Simple science.
Working out limits the holly jolly muffin tops. The average American gains a couple of lbs. during the holiday season binging on cookies, cocktails and finger foods. Most of us never lose these. If you don’t want to add up those pounds in the next decade you need to put in some sweat equity right now. Work hard, play hard. TIP: drink more water than wine and eat before you go to a party so you can avoid the decedent hors d’ oeuvres. Increase your cardio during the holidays. You can sweat yourself into the best shape of your life this holiday season that will seamlessly transition into your summer body before the flowers bloom.
