Celery Juice Benefits

I love starting my day off with a glass of celery juice!

There is no denying that celery juice benefits have been a crazy popular subject for a few years now, but its longevity as a trend is actually a reflection of its real value. Otherwise, it would have burned out by now. But the truth is that one 16‑ounce glass of celery juice in the morning is genuinely a great way to start the day with a boost of nutrition and hydration that offers all kinds of amazing health benefits.

Benefits of Celery Juice

The benefits of celery juice are definitely plentiful. (Just remember to wash your celery very well before juicing it, as its physical structure makes it prone to retaining outside contaminants.) An average bunch of celery produces about 16 ounces of nutrient‑rich celery juice with just 10 grams of naturally occurring sugar. One of the ways celery juice benefits us is by being rich in antioxidants, which have been linked to reducing rates of certain cancers, diabetes, heart and liver disease, and obesity, as well as boosting cardiovascular health. Plus, its phytonutrients have been shown to reduce inflammation, boost skin health, and fight the free radicals that are at the root of aging. Feeling healthier and looking younger is truly a magical combination!

Note: The process of juicing celery removes the natural fiber, so feel free to garnish your glass of celery juice with a crunchy celery stick to increase your fiber intake – another added benefit!

Celery Juice Nutrients

A 16-ounce glass of celery juice benefits us nutritionally, as well. It’s low in calories, fat free, and absolutely packed with nutrients, including apigenin, biotin, calcium, copper, ferulic acid, fluoride, folate, luteolin,  magnesium, manganese, niacin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin, sodium, thiamin, vitamin A, vitamins B1,2,3,5,6,9, vitamin C, vitamin, K, and even a little protein!

That list of nutrients in celery juice isn’t even comprehensive, but it is impressive. And it’s certainly a lot of vitamins and minerals for just one glass of juice!

Everything To Know About Juicing Celery at Home

If you want to try it for yourself, but aren’t sure how to make celery juice at home, it’s actually super easy. If you have a juicer, simply separate and wash your (preferably organic) celery sticks before running them through the juicer. Fairly inexpensive juicers are readily available, and having your own juicer is definitely the easiest way to make celery juice at home. However, if you don’t have a juicer for use at home, you can always put your celery sticks in the blender, and then strain the resulting mixture to extract the celery juice from the fiber pulp. (You can even add a spoonful or two of pulp back in for a boost of extra fiber.)

Full disclosure: The taste of fresh celery juice can be bitter at first, so you may need to give yourself time to adjust to the flavor. (It’s a taste worth acquiring!) Some people add other things, like apple slices or lime juice, to modify the taste, but celery juice is best when it’s pure and unadulterated. It’s also better made fresh and enjoyed right away. Of course, you may want to throw in some ice to make sure your juice is as cool as it is refreshing.

The “how” in “how to make celery juice” has one important caveat: it should be made fresh. Making a larger batch at one time and refrigerating it for later is not recommended. Please keep that in the back of your mind if you ever find yourself ordering celery juice at a juice bar. If they don’t make it right in front of you, skip it, and wait until you are able to make celery juice at home.

Things To Consider With Celery Juice

Are there benefits of celery juice on an empty stomach? Yes! In fact, it is generally a good idea to drink celery juice on an empty stomach at least 15 minutes before consuming other food or drinks–it’s why I drink mine first thing in the morning. If you happen to have a sensitive digestive system, are on a low‑sodium diet, take certain medications, or are pregnant, you should talk to your doctor before adding celery juice to your regular diet. Once you have the all-clear, you can make celery juice at home and enjoy the many celery juice benefits that have made it so popular.
