I love starting my day off with a glass of celery juice!
While celery juice isn’t a magic elixir that will make the pounds slide right off, it does provide a great nutrient boast in the morning. Celery juice packs a punch with vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, folate, calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, electrolytes, water and other vitamins and minerals. Studies show that celery may help to fight against cancer and liver disease, reduce inflammation and boost cardiovascular health. Celery also fights free radicals, the root cause of aging. Celery has positive effects on blood pressure, blood lipids and can reduce blood sugar levels.
Unlike many other juices, celery juice is meant to contain only one ingredient-celery.
While celery juice provides a lot of good nutrients, when you juice it you lose fiber and concentrate the sugar. An eight-ounce glass of celery juice has 42 calories, whereas a cup of cut celery has about 18 calories. Additionally, celery juice is bitter, so it takes some time to acclimate to the taste.
If you want to try incorporate celery juice into your diet here are some of my top tips:
- Drink celery juice on an empty stomach. It’s a great first thing in the morning beverage. Aim for 16-ounces of juice, which is about one bunch of celery.
- Buy organic celery. Celery is one of the dirty dozen foods.
- Make the juice fresh.
- Wait at least 15-minutes before eating anything else.
